Care Information

We suggest buying care products from reputable brands and from reputable retailers to ensure you purchase the most appropriate product for your shoes. Many of the brands we stock provide care information with the shoes and it is worth noting their specific suggestions. In most cases, however, a good leather protector and cleaner will work wonders on a range of leathers.

Care of Leather, Suede & Nubuck

Proper care and maintenance of leather shoes will help to ensure their longevity in wear. Here are a few tips for getting the best from your footwear.

Remember to clean and protect your shoes regularly using the correct product. Always make sure you are using the appropriate shoe care product for your footwear. Follow the instructions and test any product in an inconspicuous area first.

Leather uppers require regular treatment with a good-quality wax or cream based polish to protect the leather and give a high shine finish. This should help to prolong the life of the uppers and maintain their appearance. The shoes should be dry and clean of any debris before application. Try to avoid using unsuitable liquid polish applicators on high quality leather uppers as these can potentially damage the surface of the leather and often create a lacquer which is hard to remove.

Suede and Nubuck uppers can be treated using a ‘Suede Protector’ spray. A rubber suede brush can help to lift any dirt and debris, however, stubborn stains may necessitate treatment with a suede shampoo.

Waxed-finished or waterproof leather uppers should be treated with a ‘waxed leather’ cream to condition, soften and protect the leather. Usually there is no need to use a coloured polish on this type of leather as it is not supposed to have a high shine.

Leather soles will expand when wet. Avoid wet conditions during the first few wears of your new shoes. Alternatively have a good cobbler put a thin slip sole on the soles to protect them. In the event that your leather soles become very wet, ensure that they are allowed to dry out slowly and naturally, away from direct heat (i.e radiators).

Leather shoes can often take a day to dry out fully whether from rain or natural perspiration. Where possible allow a day between wears and alternate with other shoes.

Using wooden shoe trees in your shoes will help to absorb moisture and maintain the shape of the shoe as they dry out.

A shoe horn can help to prevent damage to the heels. Information on shoe care from Lucy Choi London

Hultquist care information

All Hultquist Jewellery is nickel free and each item is handmade and made primarily of brass and  zinc. It is first plated with copper and then with gold or silver. We use Swarovski elements, semi-precious stones, glass stones and freshwater pearls.

Freshwater pearls are nature pearls and as in nature these are different in colour and shape.

By use of plated jewellery there will be certain wear and tear.

With plated jewellery many factors influence the wear and tear such as acid from the skin, sweat, perfume, hairspray, alcohol and medicine consumption, body imbalance, stress, air pollution etc. Each individuals body/skin affect very differently on the plating.

Sence care information

If you follow these guidelines, we will surely have a long and joyful time together

I do not like to shower, please take me off. I do not like perfume and might react to it.

I would like to stay at home while you are doing sport, because I do not like sweat.

Silver polish is for cutlery or other silver items, but not for me.

I do not like chemical or abrasive products and will react if I am exposed to it.

If I get wet please dry me immediately with a soft cloth.

Please wash your hands, and put on lotions without me.

You know that I am hand-made fashion jewellery and plated with gold, rhodium or silver, so my lifetime is of course shorter at high wear of if you use me under the above conditions.

I often carry a natural stone or am made from dyed genuine leather so my colours and structure might vary. This makes me unique.
